last day in Kathmandu (03-08-2015)

This morning i had some time to do some arrangements…
Going to pick up my visa to go to Tibet (yes! Me happy), my flighticket, then going to wander around in the bookships.
Because Kathmandu is a paradise to find good dharma Books … The only thing is the weight to travel …

And then finaly spend some time with some of the friends I know here … Luckely everybody is safe and well …
I don t know but wandering in the streets with the unbelieveble “om mani padme hum” makes me always so happy and peacefull … Nepal has a little bit that effect on me …

Now i am going for my meeting with the director again …
Trafic here is so bad it s like driving in brussels on the worst hour of the day … The meeting with the Director went very well … He is going to the area the 10 the and making a survey of all the costs to rebuilt the schools …
End of August we have and then we can start with the money we already have to rebuilt school … Ofcourse with the money we have now … But we Will need a lot more wink-emoticon

Because i was already in lalitpur i brought a new visit to mspn … The children were all sleeping but it is a really hot day today … They ask of my experience in Sindupalchowk and we had some tea …
Suddenly we start to talk about yoga and meditation, and they said it Would be nice someday that you come and teaches us. …
So next monday and tuesday i will give them (staff, children and Mothers) Lu jong, breathingexercice and some meditation wink-emoticon
I am Looking foreward for this …

And then i ll go to my favorite place in Nepal Bouddha …
Do a Kora and meditate for a while … Some time for myself!

Siting here on a bank i could watch for hours those wonderfull Tibetans doing there kora … So wonderfull!

Now packing (again) tomorrow i fly to Lhasa until sunday … I am looking foreward to see my Tibetan Sis again;-).

As you know from last year, Facebook is not allowed in Tibet … So it Will be until sunday and then i Will post again!

Goodnight!

Two days in the earthquake area (02-08-2015)

On our way to the province Sindupalchowk.

To get there was already an experience … After 2 hours drive in the heavy rain we reached a little town where we picket up Sharad (he works for Nepal Youth Fondation). He Will be my compagnon for the next days. He knows the Area well as he already worked one year before the earth quake here in a nutrition program. The further we drive the bigger is the damage … Especially when we are driving into the hills, you see many stones of what had been houses … some villages are completely gone … And roads well I am already used to bad roads after my many travels … but this is the worst I have seen … because of the earthquake and then now the monsoon they are terrible … many landslides … so it is a real adventure to reach our destination …

Everywhere you go the Chinese have put up a tent … And i am sorry to say but the Nepalese People Think the Chinese are so good … Hmm … If i See what they do with Tibetans i Think they do it with a reason … For some reason they want to power of Nepal.
What you See is that There has already been done a lot of Work … Most of the Sides are cleaned but of course not all … And There are temperary buildings now they built houses of sink rooftops … that is temporary good but on lang term not … too hot. Also the schools (I visit 10) are cleaned well … ready to rebuilt … the question is of course who is going to rebuilt those places. Unicef have belt a temporay bamboo solution with a plastic rooftop, but too small and really not good for these areas .. so they built there on temporary school of sink what means again too hot and to small for so many children …

What Nepal youth foundation does is supply kitchens in the school. They do that for 2 reasons … So children Will can go to school because parents don t have to pay for There food and they get good nutrition food 2 times a day … Cost 10.000 dollar for one year (cooks, material and food supply).

We stopped in a local place to have lunch … A grandmother asked if i was a ghost 😉 i Think western People don t come here ;-).

Sitting There with a tea and Looking How happy the children are playing just with a wheel … Again in the west we can learn a lot of their happiness …

We are driving through the oldest road from Kathmandu to Tibet … from this Village it is only 3 days walking to reach Tibet … Again I am so close with the culture my heart goes to Tibetan Buddhisme … Strange Nepal is so big and the area they bring me to, well is so close to were my heart lies (two places Tibet and Ladakh, both Tibetan Buddhisme) … In this village the toll was big 90 people died in the earthquick … the men we picked up on the way lost his grandson of 3 and granddaughter of 6 … what can you say … there are no words for such a loss … however as always they are very friendly and in all their suffering they are looking happy … I even had dinner with him and his wife … wonderfull people …

You see the strenght here is that everybody help each other … but we can’t image what a struggle they have … they have to walk two hours to have water, can you imagine … Luckily another doner is taking care of this.

Our first day comes to an end …

We stay in one of the ten local villages and we are welcomed there as kings and queens … I didn’t have to use my tent, I can sleep in a temporary sinken  house … my driver and Sharad… have them installed for the door … as real men they like to protect me 😉 … for dogs that was for sure, because in the morning one waked me up …
To go to the toilet, I have to go to the woods … they made there a toilet for volenteers, toilet numbre 27 😉 … but my fear of snakes made it not easy … that is the only thing I really don’t like about this country … but it is all in the mind, isn’t it … still the mind is strong so is my fear … but I survived as always ;-).

A mat on the earth floor with a sleeping bag what do we need more … here you learn that life can be simple but still you are happy. What else you learn here is that people really live close with nature … sun goes down at 18.00 … so at 19.30 we are all ready to get in our sleeping bags … I didn’t complain because the road and many impressions made that I was exhausted … And at 5.00 the sun comes up and live starts in the local villages …

After a tea offered by a local old lady, I could assist the morning class … 30 children of this villages , but nothing to sit on all was damaged … so we all sit on a plastic learning to count from 1 until 20  in English … then the teacher asked to write it down … oh they were so happy to show me … miss can you check … miss did I do well ..

So much “real love” from those children … I immediately decide to buy them the furniture … again noot from the project money … because here I want to built the schools with … but later in the day we went to a smid who is going to make the benches … 9 …Sharad is going to send me in 10 days the pictures I am wondering … It will be better for them ;-).

Then the challenge of the day cames,Sharad was needed in some town and had to leaves us … what means I was stuck with my driver who doesn’t understand any English … hmm that was really a chalenge ;-).

We were invited to eat with some locals for breakfast, corn and apple …. It was made with so much love … the women wants to make a conversation but it has to be in signs … then she showed pictures of her family … that made it of course a little easier to make a conversation … with hands and feet … When I see those people and I observe them, honestly I am a little jalous … they have nothing (only a sink roof above them head and food) but they are really happy. Ofcourse they also have worries, that is life … but they are really happier then us in the West!

In the car that makes me think what does a person really want in his life and really need … well I can only speak for myself but to share your live with a person you love, a roof above your head, food, and human contact with others … and for me nobody of my friends and relatives will be surprised because they already believe that I want to live in the east for many years … but yes in Asia I feel at home, my heart, my soul are really connected here … so I am sure one of these years I will settle me down here maybe Nepal maybe somewhere else … time will tell … .

And then we were again on the road visiting schools … I am ashamed to say but I already started to be used to all the damage … luckily every family has already a temporary home now … The two last schools we were visiting were terrible … everything (8 buildings) destroyed … luckily the earthquake came on a saterday what is here a national holiday otherwise I think there would be more deaths!

I was invited to join the morning meeting with the teachers and the principal. I was the focus of their attention … luckily there was an English teacher otherwise the communication would have been very difficult! All is gone in this school … I think of all the schools I have visit … this school needs the most help.

Because honoustly I will have to do more actions to collect money … my wish has shifted now to help the 10 schools in this district . Why? they are situated in an area not many help will come and they are of the lowest cast, many very poor people … I want to commit myself to replace the 10 schools, 240 shoolbanks and 30 computers …

Tomorrow I have a meeting with the president of ‘nepal Youth fondation’ I want to make a plan with him to calculate the coast … and plan school by school … but my goal is to help them all … And I will need all your help …so please people keep on donating or keep on organising good actions to collect money!

I am going to talk to the Lu Jong teachers to organise again a Lu Jongday with this income we can rebuilt one school, maybe we can also organize again ‘dance for Nepal’ … let ’s see … but I am really more then ever committed to make this a succes! Let’s give the children again a school to go too … on one of the walls of the schools still remain I read the text “Education is the most important weapon to change the world” of Nelson Mandela … please let us all help the change in the world for the children of Nepal.

After visiting the schools the long drive back to Kathmandu started, across the hills, landslides and the many trucks stranded … pff this makes you tired travelling in the heat  … but I must say I have a very good driver, we can’t communicate but he knows how to drive. On the way we bought the benches for the local school, cost 22.500 Nepalese rupees, or 220 euro … I am happy that I can make again some people happy …

After a long drive finally back in Kathmandu … in the crowd and the traffic here I already miss the people up there in the mountains ;-)…

Well this evening I already will start to write emails for the benches and the computers … maybe some companies want to help … a newsletter to have more donations … a mail to organisations to organize benefits … who knows that in a few months we (belgians) can say we helped to rebuilt 10 schools so the children have a better change for a better future!

Goodnight!
